How HansePay moves money in minutes at a fraction of the cost. The technology is hidden by design, but here is what runs underneath when you need to know.
An E-Money Token is a regulated digital version of the euro, issued by a licensed financial institution. One token equals one euro, always. It exists so money can settle the way information already does, instantly, programmatically, across borders.
Always 1:1. Fixed by law under MiCAR. Not a market price.
Every bank in the correspondent chain adds a fee, a spread, and a day of delay. EMT settlement collapses the entire chain into a single atomic step.
Every PayPal balance you hold is e-money: digital money with a fixed 1:1 value, issued by a licensed institution. HansePay settles in the same kind of money: regulated euro and dollar e-money tokens (EMTs), issued by a licensed e-money institution partner. Atrya Technologies SIA, which operates HansePay, holds them in custody and converts them as a MiCAR-authorised crypto-asset service provider. The difference is what we built on top: real-time cross-border settlement from 0.20%.
E-money you already know. Different economics.
Where e-money sits
E-money is fixed in value (1:1 to EUR), issued by a licensed institution, and regulated under EU law.
Every fee in cross-border banking maps to infrastructure built around the system's own latency. Remove the latency, and most of those layers disappear.
Indicative breakdown for a small to mid cross-border wire. Actual bank costs vary by corridor, volume, and relationship.
Chart not to scale. At true scale the bank bar would be 8× taller.
When you confirm a transfer at HansePay, the rate is locked at that exact moment, atomically. The value that leaves your account is the value that arrives at the recipient bank. No execution gap. No slippage.
Every euro you send through HansePay sits inside this stack. Customer funds are segregated, the licensed entity is MiCAR-authorised and supervised by Latvijas Banka.
The infrastructure does what infrastructure should do: it disappears. You send euros, your counterparty receives euros.
